Industry Outlook: Textile Soft Furnishing Sector Steady in 2012, Xier Group’s Pufeite Unit Eyes Brighter Future
According to the National Bureau of Statistics’ quarterly analysis of the home textile category in early 2012, China’s home textile industry recorded growth across production, sales, exports, profits, and tax contributions, sustaining its stable development trajectory. However, the “twin shortages”—weak market consumption and tight corporate liquidity—continued to weigh on day-to-day operations.
Against this backdrop, the China International Trade Fair for Home Textiles and Accessories – Autumn Edition (intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles), scheduled for August 28 in Shanghai, carried a heavier-than-usual mandate: guiding enterprise transformation under the industry association’s direction, restoring confidence across the supply chain, and refining marketing channels.
This edition of the fair reached a record scale—138,000 square meters of exhibition space with an estimated 60,000 professional visitors—making it a powerful prelude to the home textile landscape of 2013.
In recent years, domestic brands have doubled down not only on R&D and design but also on conceptual innovation. Companies have come to realize that building a brand requires more than product refinement; it demands a fresh consumer philosophy that pushes craftsmanship to its limit and earns genuine market recognition.
The trend releases at this autumn’s fair showcased more than fabrics—they expressed an attitude toward living. After multi-round screening and evaluation, selected designers’ collections were officially unveiled as the season’s trend directives. The color trend release stood out as a signature highlight: designers introduced “color therapy” concepts previously untouched by the home textile sector, using vibrant palettes to convey harmony and warmth. In an era of high life pressure, relieving tension through color has become part of the modern home philosophy.
Globally, upholstery fabric makers continued to pursue market expansion with undiminished momentum. While individual companies balanced different domestic/export ratios, the mainstream shift toward “dual-track sales + continuous market restructuring” was clear. As cultural DNA, intangible heritage textiles—Yunjin brocade, Dong brocade, Shu brocade, blue-printed cloth, Xinjiang hand-knotted carpets, and other traditional handicrafts—returned to the spotlight.
The heritage segment integrated editorial display, expert consultation, and live demonstrations by inheritors, merging documentary authenticity with artistic typicality to present the charm of textile intangible cultural heritage from multiple angles—and the constructive dialogue between Chinese traditional culture and modern industry.
High quality rooted in high technology: the towel section, representing high-end living, highlighted innovation capability. Leading names such as JieLiYa, alongside the Gaoyang towel cluster (with over ten top local manufacturers), debuted latest tech-driven products. The fair also featured legacy brands like Veken and Hongrun (functional pillows), the Zhouquan silk-quilt cluster, and Pujiang (China’s quilting town) presenting diverse new bedding lines.
As China’s home textile industry flows forward, many domestic and overseas exhibitors seized the occasion to launch new collections. Shanghai Pufeite Embossed Plate Co., Ltd., a member of Xier Group, wishes the home textile industry an ever-more brilliant journey ahead.
